(WASHINGTON, DC)- Officials say a weekend drone strike in the Afghan capital of Kabul has killed senior al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri.

al-Zawahri was reportedly the deputy to former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, and was instrumental in numerous terror attacks against the US including the Sept. 11, 2001 attack that killed over 3000 people.

The White House has not confirmed the name of the person killed in the CIA led operation, saying only it was successful and no civilans were injured.

President Joe Biden will address the nation later this evening from the White House.
