The St. Lucie County Fire District is reporting that a freak accident sent a turtle flying through he windshield of a car on the turnpike.

The incident was reported on Friday around 5:00 p.m. near mile marker 176.

Authorities say the semi-truck that was headed southbound kicked up a turtle in the roadway and sent it flying through the air. It eventually went through the windshield of a nearby vehicle.

Authorities say both the turtle and the driver were uninjured during the incident.
