(WASHINGTON, DC)– The Supreme Court is ordering Title 42 be kept in effect, for now in response to an emergency request from 20 state attorneys general.

The high court voted 5-4 to keep the order in place but will wait to hear arguments before issuing a final ruling.

The Biden administration has been fighting to allow the order to expire, which allows asylum seekers to be turned away at the border due to COVID concerns.

Lawmakers from both parties worry that discontinuing Title 42 would create a surge of migrants at the southern U.S. border.

This is a developing story.
