Former Broward Sheriff Scott Israel has been named the new police chief for the city of Opa-locka.
The announcement was made on Friday during a press conference:
“It is a true honor. The Bible tells us with authority comes responsibility and I look so forward to the opportunity to become one team with the citizens of Opa-locka,” Israel said.
Israel served as the Broward County Sheriff until he was removed by Governor Ron DeSantis due to his response to the Parkland school shooting on Feb. 14, 2018.
DeSantis and the victims claimed that Israel did not do enough to protect the lives at the school.
During the 2020 primary, Israel attempted to win his seat back but lost to DeSantis’ appointee Gregory Tony.
Israel was then employed by the Davie Police Department as a traffic enforcement officer.
