(PUNTA GORDA, FLA)  — A scissor-wielding man was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man over 40 times at a store Monday in Punta Gorda, according to authorities.

Surveillance footage captured 36-year-old Edmond Clarke standing at the counter of a store, when he suddenly reaches for a pair of scissors and stab a person repeatedly.

“This disgusting crime will not be tolerated in Lee County,” asserted Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “I am proud of the quick response of our deputies that helped save the victim’s life, and the hard work of my detectives to take Clarke off the street.”

The victim experienced extensive injuries to his torso, head, and neck. The stabbing occurred at a trading post at Burnt Store Marina, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Clarke was arrested for attempted murder, and the victim is currently receiving emergency treatment at the Gulf Coast Medical Center.
