Treasure Coast residents now have an answer regarding the bright “object” they saw just before sunrise on the first day of 2020.
Kitty Elder took pictures of what initially appeared to be a rocket launch off the coast of Wabasso Beach, north of Vero Beach.
According to NASA’s website, the space agency had no launches scheduled for the day.
Several other people reported seeing the object from Vero Beach to Jensen Beach in the moments before the sun came up.
“It’s very easy to speculate people think they see something,” says Sanford Manley, a former historian with the Strategic Air Command.
He explains that what many people saw actually was the contrail of a plane being illuminated by the rising sun.
Manley adds, “No missile, no problem, no UFO.”
