Following separate investigations into his professional conduct Riviera Beach police chief Nathan Osgood resigned as the head of the agency on Friday.

Osgood came under fire when he personally intervened in the arrest of Riviera Beach Councilman Douglas Lawson who was accused of domestic battery against his fiancé Jade Calloway.

He ordered officers to release Lawson from custody, in effect ‘unarresting’ him, after they were summoned to the scene by security guards at the councilman’s apartment building.

Osgood also fired a police captain for ‘insubordination’ after he filed the Lawson arrest report against the his orders.

The fired captain was later reinstated by city manager Jonathan Evans.

Josh Lewis has been named interim chief until a permanent replacement is named.
