The official death toll from the collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida has risen to 22 with 129 still unaccounted for.
Search and rescue work continues on this ninth day at the site after being suspended yesterday due to instability in the remaining structure.

In the midst of searching for life, a heartbreaking discovery was made while rescuers dug through the rubble on Thursday after the search resumed.
According to WPLG, other rescue workers found the first responder’s 7-year-old daughter’s body and brought her down to her father, who was searching for survivors in the building’s remains at the time.

The first responder told WPLG that he put his jacket on his daughter’s body and put a small American flag on the gurney as he, his brother, and other first responders took the body from the collapse site.

“You can just understand what the first responders are going through when something like that to happen here, for that first responder who’s here trying to help other families to find his own daughter’s body in the rubble is just absolutely heartbreaking,” said one reporter.
