Delray, FL– A 41-year-old registered sexual offender has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars after investigators found that he was in possession of sexually explicit material involving children.
Authorities began investigating Nicholas Deraway in January 2022
after Google alerted the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children that a user under the name of “Nick Meenachan” uploaded the exploitation material.
Officials executed a warrant on Deraway’s home and discovered thousands of sexually explicit images and videos of children.
Deraway was already registered as a sexual offender in the Southern District of Florida following a 2004 conviction.
Authorities say while federal law requires those on the sex offender registration list to send officials any changes to their whereabouts and avenues of communication, Deraway failed to do so.
He has now been sentenced to 10 years in prison and 15 years of supervised release for possessing child sexual exploitation material and failing to properly register as a sex offender.
