(WEST PALM BEACH, FL)- Federal Magistrate Judge Bruce E. Reinhart has released a partially redacted version of the affidavit used by the FBI to obtain a search warrant for the private home of former president Donald Trump earlier this month.
The Justice Department claims Trump took classified records with him when he left the White House at the end of his term and believed probable cause that other documents related to national defense matters would be found at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach.
It began with a referral from the National Archives to the DOJ in February, according to the affidavit.
In August, a raid conducted by the FBI turned up a number of documents marked “Top Secret” at Mar-a-Lago.
Judge Reinhard determined that parts of the affidavit needed to be redacted to protect the interties of witnesses and law enforcement officials.
The former president’s legal team wants the entire affidavit unsealed.
