R&B singer R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars for federal sex crimes.
Judge Ann M. Donnelly made the long-awaited announcement on Wednesday in a Brooklyn courtroom.
Kelly was convicted of 9 sex crimes, including human trafficking, in September and was made aware that he could receive 10- years to life behind bars for the counts.
Due to the severity of his crimes, federal prosecutors recommended that Judge Donnelly give the singer no less than 25 years behind bars.
Kelly’s legal team brought forward several former employees of R. Kelly’s to attest to Kelly’s character and who claimed under oath that they never witnessed Kelly abuse anyone, however, prosecutors brought several witnesses forward who were able to counter those statements.
The trial took about just over a month before the sentence was handed down.
Kelly’s court battles aren’t over just yet, according to TMZ, Kelly is still facing a federal case out of Illinois and a state trial in Minnesota.
