Publix, headquartered in Lakeland, Florida, says it will not offer the COVID vaccine approved for children ages 4 and under “at this time.”
Publix did not release a statement explaining its decision Wednesday.
The company’s website is still accepting COVID-19 vaccine appointments for children ages 5 and up as well as other child vaccinations, including the flu shot for babies as young as 6 months.
Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo does not recommend vaccinating healthy children against COVID, contrary to CDC guidelines.
Florida is the only state not ordering doses of the vaccine for babies leaving the option up to pediatricians, medical clinics and children’s hospitals to vaccinate children under five.
