A former U.S. postal worker in Ocala, Florida has plead guilty to stealing pieces of mail.

25-year-old Miranda Delee Farleigh plead guilty on Feb. 1st for her actions which were discovered in November of 2021.

Authorities say while Farleigh worked as a contract employee for the Lady Lake Post Office, a supervisor discovered several tubs and bags of illegally opened U.S. Mail in her possession.

The supervisor then contacted police to conduct an investigation.

When Farleigh was questioned about the pieces of opened mail, she told authorities that she had been opening outgoing mail in Lake and Sumter Counties for about a month in an effort to find money and gift cards.

She continued saying it was to support her heroin habit.

Authorities say approximately 4,000 pieces of mail opened by Farleigh.

Farleigh faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
