
ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL– The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting a possible death investigation after an industrial accident at a rock quarry.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at the Vulcan Materials Company at 14171 Range Line Rd.
While not much is known about the incident at this time, Vulcan Materials Company released a statement to our news partners at WPTV about the incident:
“There was an incident that occurred yesterday at our Fort Pierce facility. Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends, family, and loved ones of our employees at this time. We are grateful for the efforts of first responders. Our team is on-site and will continue to work directly with the parties involved throughout their on-going recovery efforts and investigation.”
According to St. Lucie County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Brenda Stokes, crews were called to the area Wednesday due to a possible drowning, however, they left within the hour and without transporting any patients.
As of 1:00 p.m., Thursday, deputies were seen guarding the entrances and the exits to the area.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration is now leading the investigation.
