Riviera Beach Police say they have made an arrest in connection with a shooting that left 2-year-old baby boy clinging to life.
Tequan Johnson is in custody and faces charges of attempted homicide, shooting in a building, and aggravated assault of a child, for shooting Tyrus Udonis Jones.
The incident took place April 23 around 5 p.m. in the 800 block of West 5th Street.
Police say it was a targeted shooting.
“They were specific,” said Riviera Beach Police Chief Nathan Osgood during a news conference announcing the arrest.
He explained that the incident stems from long-running feuds between groups in Riviera Beach and neighboring West Palm Beach, and more arrests may be coming.
Osgood added, “An individual like this needs to be put away for a long time. To indiscriminately shoot in broad daylight and just spray around … that says a lot.”
Tyrus, who is known as “Baby Ron Ron” and “Udonis,” has been in medically induced coma at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach since the shooting.
Meanwhile, Osgood explains that due to the severity of the allegations, along with Johnson being on juvenile felony probation in another case, he will likely face charges in the county’s adult felony court.
The State Attorney’s Office will make the final decision regarding the charges Johnson will face.
Johnson is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.
Anyone with more information on the case is asked to call the Riviera Beach Police Department at (561) 845-4123 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS.
