In a harrowing incident, Pittsburgh police officers and a bystander stopped a suicidal man from jumping off the city’s Roberto Clemente Bridge.
Revealing details of the Monday incident four days after it occurred, police say the despondent resident was dangling his legs over the side of the bridge when a Good Samaritan called police and then began talking to the unidentified man in an attempt to buy time for police. Two plainclothes officers arrived and joined in the conversation as they cautiously worked their way closer to the man. When they were finally close enough, they grabbed the man and pulled him back onto the bridge, according to a Pittsburgh police report. The man has be admitted to psychiatric hospital, police say.
