Flashing Lights on Police Car

The Palm Beach Sheriffs Office is warning the public about a new scam, scammers are using to prey on local families.

Investigators say scammers have now started making phone calls claiming to be an employee of the Palm Beach Sheriffs Office and claiming to have an arrest warrant for a member of the call recipient’s family. The caller says that the matter can be resolved with an undisclosed amount of money, and that if the call recipient does not comply, they will send a deputy out to the home to make the arrest.

According to authorities, the caller has claimed to be Capt. Patrick Johnson from the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office.

Officials also say employees would never call and ask you for money or personal information. They are advising the public to hang up if they receive a call like this and then call 911 to report it.
