Some guy is calling people in Palm Beach County claiming to be a Sergeant, Detective, or Deputy in need of a signature and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is warning that this guy is a fake cop.
The guy claims to be Sgt. Timothy McCann from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office and advises the recipient that he needs to speak with them regarding a confidential matter.
The fraudster leaves a callback number of 561-803-0412, although that number may change now that PBSO has outed the scam.
“These imposters are advising the recipients of the call that he or she or a member of their family has a warrant for their arrest that can be rectified with money. If not, the imposters threatened to go to the resident’s home to make an arrest.”
The statement continues, “Please know, this is a SCAM! We do NOT call asking for money or personal information. It’s unfortunate, people can do things like this during these trying times, but it’s happening so be aware.”
If you receive a call from this imposter, the PBSO asks you to hang up and call 911.
Here’s what an excerpt from on of the phony calls.
