Parkland shooter’s trial delayed indefinitely due to coronavirus

The trial for Nikolas Cruz has been delayed indefinitely due to coronavirus protections at the courthouse.

Broward Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer made the announcement Monday via virtual hearing.

Cruz is facing the death penalty for the killing of 17 people in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school on February 14th, 2018.

The courthouse has been closed to the public since March 16th due to the coronavirus and at this point, it is unclear when it will be reopened to the public.

When the courts finally reopen, Cruz’ lawyers say he plans to plead guilty to the charges in exchange for life in prison, however, prosecutors prefer Cruz receive the death penalty.
