PALM BEACH, FL– Authorities in Palm Beach say they arrested a man during a traffic stop after finding he was in possession of a stolen gun.
The situation began on Friday when officials say they conducted a traffic stop on a 2022 Chevy sedan that failed to stop at a stop sign on Royal Palm Way and Hibiscus Way.
The suspect, only described as a soon-to-be 19-year-old male from South Dakota, told authorities that he did not have any identification or a valid driver’s license.
While speaking with the driver, authorities noticed a gun in the car’s open center console.
The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle, at which time authorities noticed his ankle monitor.
After authorities finally identified the man, he told them that he was on supervised release in Palm Beach County following his arrest for robbery in Riviera Beach in February.
As police checked the serial number on the gun, they found that it was listed in South Dakota as stolen.
Authorities also say they found another gun inside the driver’s seat of the vehicle when the suspect stepped out, and more than 1,200 rounds of ammunition of several calibers, during their search.
The suspect has been arrested and is facing charges of grand theft of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm during commission of a felony, and violation of probation.
He is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
