
(PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLA) — Palm Beach County Schools will be closed through Thursday “in an abundance of caution” as Hurricane Ian slams into the west coast of Florida. All after-school activities, sports practices and meetings are also canceled and district offices will be closed.
“We have been watching Hurricane Ian closely before making our decision to close schools,” Superintendent Mike Burke said in a news release. “I will continue to work closely with emergency managers and make timely decisions in the best interest of our students and staff.”
Schools in Martin St. Lucie and Indian River Counties will also be closed through Thursday.
Okeechobee Public Schools will be closed for the remainder of the week.
Broward County Public Schools will also be closed through Thursday
Palm Beach Solid Waste Authority will have no trash pickup on Wednesday and are asking residents not to trim any trees or set their trash cans out as it will not be collected.
PalmTran is service suspended through Wednesday.
PBI will be open, however travelers should check with their airline before heading out.
All Palm Beach County offices including courts will be closed on Wednesday.
