BIRMINGHAM, AL– Authorities are reporting that a 65-year-old man who was found dead in a roadway Tuesday was killed by the pack of dogs that were found near his body.
The victim, identified as Joe Cleveland Scott, died from multiple dog bites according to the coroner’s office.
The Jefferson Co. Sheriff’s Office says they received a call around 6:50 a.m. about a man’s body on the road at Iceland Avenue near Utica Place.
The passerby told authorities that the victim appeared to be dead and was surrounded by a pack of dogs.
When officials arrived at the scene, they encountered six dogs who refused to allow them to get near the body.
Officials could tell, however, that Scott was deceased.
The dogs were eventually trapped and caged at the scene before being released into the care of animal control.
It is unclear what animal control will do with the dogs.
