DAVIE- Online rumors of a shooting at Broward College Central Campus prompted several calls to police on Wednesday and led to Code Red lockdowns going into effect at several area schools.

Broward College, along with Nova Eisenhower Elementary, Nova Blanche Foreman Elementary, Davie Elementary, Nova High School, McFatter Technical, and portions of Nova Southeastern University, locked down at around 1:00 PM as police responded to Building 9 on the Broward campus.

A heavy police presence formed in the area but no evidence of an active shooter was found.

All students are safe.

Davie police released a statement on Facebook: “Davie Police received a call of a shooting at Broward College. Officers quickly arrived and searched the building in question and found no activity. Area schools were placed on a Code Red status as a precaution. Officers are currently conducting a secondary sweep of Broward College. At this time, there are no victims or injured persons. All nearby schools were checked as a precaution and nothing was found. Our Detectives are investigating the origin of the call.”

Classes have been cancelled for the remainder of the day at Broward College and regular dismissal is expected at the other area schools affected by the lockdown.
