A suspect is now in custody after a fatal shooting at a Walmart near Miami-Dade Wednesday.
The incident occurred inside of the Walmart located at 33501 S. Dixie Highway in Florida City.
“What we do know is that … there was an altercation amongst two groups. Three individuals on each side where these individuals had some type of altercation amongst each other,” MDPD Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said. “It escalated into a physical altercation where one of the produced a firearm, discharged it, striking these two individuals.”
One person was airlifted to a hospital where they later died. Another victim, who was struck by a stray bullet, was transported by ground to Jackson South Medical Center where they are listed in stable condition.
Several other people were treated at the scene for minor scrapes and bruises. At least one victim was also treated for a panic attack and authorities say, a woman who suffered a head injury after a fall inside of the store, drove herself to the hospital.
Authorities are still investigating the situation.
