MIAMI, FL– Miami Mayor Francis Suarez says the City of Miami is, and has been preparing for demonstrations ahead of Donald Trump’s arraignment Tuesday.
“We encourage people to be peaceful in their demonstrating how they feel and we’re going to have the adequate forces necessary to do that.”
Suarez says he supports the right to protest and his team will handle the protest the same way they managed the George Floyd protests:
“We’re going to be using a unified command approach meaning that all the individuals that are able to make any type of significant decision,” he said, “that impacts deployment of resources or shifting strategies and techniques that we’ll be using to keep the city safe will be in the same room.”
The joint effort will also include thousands of fire rescue and EMS personnel:
“We’re bringing in enough resources to handle a crowd of anywhere from 5,000 to 50,000,” Morales said. “We don’t expect any issues.”
Former President Donald Trump is expected to be arraigned on 37 charges related to mishandling classified documents.
Legal experts say that any trial would likely not be for at least a year or two.
If Trump were to be convicted on any of the federal charges, he could be sentenced to jail time.
