Officer killed during Capitol Breach identified

Authorities have publicly identified an officer who was killed during the Capitol building breach on Wednesday.

The U.S Capitol policeman was identified as Officer 42-year-old Brian D. Sicknick of New Jersey.

Authorities say they believe Sicknick was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher “while physically engaging with protesters,” however, his death is still under investigation at this time.

The family has since released a statement regarding the officer’s passing:

” Many details regarding Wednesday’s events and the direct causes of Brian’s injuries remain unknown, and our family asks the public and the press to respect our wishes in not making Brain’s passing a political issue.”

They also reported that Officer Sicknick wanted to be a police officer all of his life but first served in the New Jersey Air National Guard before he joined the Capitol police in 2008.

Sicknick was one of five people who died during Wednesday’s Capitol breach.
