A young mother has been taken into police custody after an officer responding to a domestic call, found her stabbing her 1-year-old daughter in the back.
The incident occurred at an apartment on Taylor Street in north Greenville, North Carolina.
Officials say they were called to the home due to an argument between the suspect and a family member:
“Upon their arrival, officers encountered 21-year-old Cierra Dyer arguing with a family member over the custody of her 1-year-old daughter,” officials said.
Authorities say at some point Dyer walked into the kitchen and the officer followed. That’s when Dyer grabbed a knife and began stabbing the child. When the officer confronted her, Dyer then dropped the knife.
The child was taken to an area hospital where she is expected to make a full recovery.
Dyer was taken to the Pitt County Detention Center, where she has been charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse.
