CORAL GABLES, FL– A Miami-Dade Police officer is recovering in a hospital after he was struck by a bullet when a gun accidentally went off in a restaurant.
The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Sushi Maki at 2334 Ponce De Leon Blvd.
Investigators say the officer was eating at the restaurant with a guest when his gun somehow went off.
The bullet struck the chair the guest was sitting in and then struck the officer.
Several guests were also in the restaurant at the time, but only the officer was injured.
Officials are conducting an internal affairs investigation into the accidental discharge.
