Off-duty officer working at hospital fatally shoots man who ambushed him

(LONGVIEW, TX)– Police in Texas are investigating after an off-duty officer was forced to shoot a man who allegedly ambushed him outside of a hospital.
The incident was reported at Hospitality Health ER on Nov. 27.
The officer was working his side job as a security guard at the hospital when he went to check the parking lot around 9:00 p.m.
According to the report, the suspect confronted the officer and pulled out a handgun.
The officer reportedly launched at the suspect and struggled with him for control of the gun.
During the struggle, the officer then pulled his own gun and shot the suspect.
Medical staff attempted life-saving measures on the suspect, however, he still died from his injuries.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave as the Texas Rangers continue to investigate the shooting.
