Embattled New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday he will resign from office effective in 14 days.

Cuomo-Step Aside

The 62 year old three term governor is facing accusations from numerous women who say he touched them inappropriately and made lewd remarks about their bodies and sex lives.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, 62, will ascend to the governorship in two weeks, becoming the 57th governor of New York and the first woman to hold that office.

The scandals surrounding Cuomo were outlined in a report issued by New York Attorney General Letitia James and revealed he had sexually harassed 11 women who worked in and around the executive office.

Cuomo initially took a defiant stance saying he would not leave office before his term was completed even as president Joe Biden and high ranking members of congress called on him to resign, and characterize the accusations as entirely false.

He had enjoyed widespread popularity for his press conferences during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and for his strident criticism of former president Donald Trump.

Cuomo continues to deny the claims of his accusers.
