TAMPA, FL– Tampa Bay Bay Buccaneers quarterback, Blaine Gabbert was among a group of Good Samaritans who rescued four people from a helicopter following an emergency landing.
The incident occurred on Dec. 29th near the Davis Islands Yacht Club.
The pilot reported that he and three other passengers were on their way to Peter O. Knight Airport when he heard a loud bang and noticed that the helicopter no longer had power.
The pilot decided to land the helicopter in the water near the Yacht Club.
All occupants ended up in the water as nearby boaters rushed to their aid:
“We raced over there. The youngest kid had just came up and said he was pinned in there, and I asked if anyone else was trapped and then I called 911, tried to remain as calm as possible,” Gabbert said. “It all turned positive they were healthy, scared, nervous but it was a pretty crappy situation that turned good in the end.”
All four occupants were taken from the water successfully.
It is unclear if there were any injuries.
