LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL– A DUI suspect is now in police custody after witnesses intervened when he attempted to flee the scene of the crash.
The incident occurred on March 9 at 6th Avenue South and Avenue D in Lake Worth Beach.
Authorities say 29-year-old Andres Jimenez Marcos was driving a green Toyota truck when he made a left turn and crashed into an oncoming car.
The passenger from the Toyota took off running and so did Marcos, however, witnesses were able to capture Marcos and hold him at the scene.
Officials reported that Marcos had glassy and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol.
Authorities also found a carton of Modelo beer on the floorboard of the vehicle, along with multiple open empty bottles of beer.
Marcos told authorities he drank three or four bottles of Modelo beer earlier in the day.
He was taken into custody and charged with DUI, hit-and-run, and driving without a license.
The driver of the other car was said to have suffered minor injuries.
