Nancy Pelosi: Trump is provoking Democrats to impeach him

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi heaps scorn on Attorney General William Barr, saying his letter about special counsel Robert Mueller’s report was “condescending,” after Barr concluded there was no evidence that President Donald Trump’s campaign “conspired or coordinated” with the Russian government to influence the 2016 election, during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, March 28, 2019. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claimed Tuesday that President Trump is trying to provoke Democrats into proceeding with impeachment.

“Trump is goading us to impeach him,” she said at an event in New York City hosted by the Cornell University Institute of Politics and Global Affairs. “That’s what he’s doing. Every single day, he’s just like taunting, taunting, taunting because he knows that it would be very divisive in the country, but he doesn’t really care. He just wants to solidify his base.”

Pelosi went on to say that Trump is “taunting” Democrats to impeach him because “he knows it would be divisive to the country, but he doesn’t care.”

Pelosi’s comments were made in the wake of ongoing tension between Democrats and the Trump administration over the Mueller report.

Wednesday, President Trump asserted executive privilege concerning the full, unredacted report from special counsel Robert Mueller as Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee, led by Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler, were voting to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress.
