WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.– Palm Beach county mother, Rafaelle Sousa, 38, threw her newborn daughter into a dumpster with household trash three years ago and is set to spend years in prison, WPTV reports.

Sousa was sentenced to 7 1/2 years after pleading guilty to first-degree attempted murder and child abuse, with 3 years credit for the time she already served.

The child, Sarah Jimenes Carvalho, survived the attempted murder and is in the custody of her father, Carlos Jimenes Martins.

Once released from prison, Sousa will be on 5 years of probation.
