Authorities in Oklahoma have arrested the mother of a pregnant 12-year-old after investigation found that the child’s mother was aware of the sexual relationship between the girl and her 24-year-old boyfriend.

Desiree Castaneda was arrested earlier this week during a continuation of an investigation into how the pregnancy went unreported to the authorities.

Police say Castaneda was aware of the relationship that began in 2020 and even threw them a baby shower when they got pregnant.

Officials were made aware of the situation after the child and her boyfriend arrived to hospital on July 14th, happy and expecting to deliver the child “like any other couple.” Medical staff told police that the victim’s “boyfriend” seem unaware of why the situation was wrong.

He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree rape after the young girl gave birth to his child in the hospital.

Castaneda is facing charges of child neglect and enabling child abuse.

Other news outlets report that the victim’s father is currently in jail serving a 12-month sentence for rape in a unrelated case.
