MIAMI-DADE, FL– The Miami-Dade Police Department is currently searching for a gunman who opened fire at a park, killing a mother in front of her children.
The incident occurred Tuesday at Oak Grove Park on Northeast 159th Street and Seventh Avenue.
Investigators say there was some sort of verbal dispute between two groups of people when someone produced a gun.
Police say the mother was struck by gunfire as she attempted to leave the area.
The woman struck two parked vehicles before her vehicle came to a rest.
Authorities say the woman’s six children, ranging from the ages of 7 to 17, were in the vehicle at the time and saw what happened.
“I cannot even begin to imagine what those children felt having watched their mom get shot,” Said MDPD Officer Angel Rodriguez. “I cannot even imagine what they are feeling or going through right now.”
A man who identified himself as the woman’s husband later arrived on the scene and was escorted by police.
Investigators say they are still working to identify the suspects.
