A mother of two is reporting that she took down a man who randomly punched her 4-year-old son in the head while they walked in Times Square.

The incident was said to have happened around 3:20 p.m. Thursday.

Rafaela Rivera says that she was walking with her children after finishing a photo shoot for her son, when they were approached by the suspect.

Rivera said she and her daughter noticed the man Babacar Mbaye walking extremely close to them. Suddenly they heard a loud noise.

“I heard a smack like somebody got hit in the head with a bottle. I turn around and the baby is screaming hollering and crying,” Rivera told WABC.

Rivera said the noise was Mbaye striking the boy in the back of his head with a closed fist.

That’s when Rivera sprung into action:

“I was grabbing toward him and said, ‘Hey, you just hit my son,” she said. “I grabbed him harder, and we both went down. He was on top of me, and I was not letting go,” Rivera said.

With the help of good Samaritans, Mbaye was held in the area until police could take him into custody.

He’s now charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
