A Maryland mother has been arrested after she allegedly slashed her 3-year-old daughter’s neck with a pair of scissors before taking the scissors to her own neck.
The incident was reported on March 27th 10:50 a.m.
Authorities say a relative contacted police after they walked into the home and noticed blood all over the floor.
Once authorities entered the home, they located 28-year-old Anne Catherine Akers on a bedroom floor suffering from a laceration to her neck. Authorities immediately began rendering aide to Akers and removed a blanket that she was holding on to.
When authorities removed the blanket from her arms, they discovered Akers 3-year-old daughter under the blanket suffering from a life-threatening injury to her neck.
Officials performed life-saving measures on the child as both mother and child were rushed to the hospital.
Child is said to be recovering.
Akers has since been charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault, and one count of first-degree child abuse and will be held without bond at the Rockville District Court.
