Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell was sent to the hospital with a concussion after suffering a fall at a hotel.
According to his spokesperson, the 81-year-old Kentucky senator was attending a private dinner in Washington on Wednesday when he tripped while at a hotel.
McConnell will remain in the hospital “for a few days of observation and treatment,” a spokesman said Thursday.
The office did not provide any additional information on when McConnell is expected to return to the Senate but Romney predicted that McConnell would stay in the hospital over the weekend and return to the Senate next week.
This is not to first fall McConnell has suffered. In 2019, the 81-year-old fell at his home in Kentucky and suffered a shoulder fracture that required surgery.
While McConnell is known to keep his personal life out of the public eye, he did open up about his struggles with polio growing up and how he struggles now to walk up and down stairs.
