
A United Airlines executive who was reported missing about a year ago has been found dead in a forest near Chicago.
The body of 50-year-old Jacob Cefolia was discovered by contractors in the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve on Friday.
Authorities say Cefolia was found hanging from an uprooted tree by a belt in an area previously searched by local police after his vehicle was located their in August of 2020.
Officials also reported that in addition to finding Cefolia’s body, his wallet, driver’s license, and backpack were located at the scene.
While there was no immediate signs of foulplay, authorities are continuing to investigate.
Cefolia was said to have joined the United Airlines team in 2007. Then promoted to senior vice president of worldwide sales in 2018.
A spokesperson for United thanked the public for their prayers and support in the search for Celfolia:
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” the spokesperson added. “And we remain grateful for the support and prayers that so many of our employees — including Jake’s co-workers — have shared with one another and on his behalf over the past year.”
