The Colgate-Palmolive Company is recalling millions of bottles of its Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaner due to the risk of exposure of a specific bacteria.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says that the products may contain Pseudomonas-species bacteria that could be harmful to people with weakened immune systems or people with underlying lung conditions.
According to the report, the bacteria can enter the body through the eyes, broken skin, or if inhaled.
The company says the situation occurred due to a manufacturing issue where a preservative was not added at the intended levels.
“With inadequate preservative, there is a risk of bacteria growth in the recalled products,” the notice says.
Five different scented versions of the cleaner are affected.
The products in the recall were sold at retail stores like Dollar General, Sam’s Club, and Walmart, and online at Amazon.com.
Officials say the company is recalling 4.9 million bottles.
Those affected by the recall can get a refund or a replacement by contacting the Colgate-Palmolive Company.
