Mike Brennan selected as director of NOAA’s National Hurricane Center

Hurricane Fiona — seen here on NOAA’s GOES 16 satellite on Sept. 21, 2022 — was a Category-4 storm that caused 29 direct and indirect deaths and more than 3 billion dollars in damages. Due to the death and destruction, the name “Fiona” was retired from the rotating lists of Atlantic tropical cyclone names by the World Meteorological Organization in 2023.
