Miami, FL– A 23-year-old man has been arrested after he “intentionally” struck a 71-year-old woman with her own SUV before fleeing the scene.
Jonah Desaulniers, of Miami Beach, was taken into custody on Thursday following a police investigation into the hit-and-run.

The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. in the area of Southwest 27th Avenue and 22nd Terrance.

Authorities say Desaulniers was in the process of stealing the victim’s vehicle when she attempted to stop him and was run over.
Desaulniers fled, and when emergency response personnel located the victim, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
While responding to the original hit-and-run, authorities say they received a call about another hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Miracle Mile and Salzedo Street.
The fleeing vehicle in that accident matched the description of the vehicle that struck the 71-year-old woman.
As authorities continued to search the area, they eventually located Desaulniers in his damaged vehicle.
Desaulnier surrendered to authorities once he was located.
He was transported to Larkin Community Hospital for medical treatment before being booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
After reviewing surveillance video from the first scene, authorities found that Desaulniers “intentionally” and “maliciously” ran down the first victim with his vehicle.
He is now facing a first-degree murder charge.
