Miami-Dade Police Shoot, Kill North Carolina Fugitive After Firefight

Miami-Dade Police reportedly shot and killed a man they described as being a fugitive from North Carolina, after the man shot an officer in his bulletproof vest.

Investigators tracked him down to a house on the 25500 block of SW 147th Avenue, where the 56-year-old man barricaded himself inside.

At one point, Miami-Dade’s Special Response Team was called in to assist hostage negotiators, but were unable to convince the man to surrender.

SRT officers then entered the house. The man “opened fire, striking an SRT officer on his ballistic vest,” according to a police press release.

A firefight unfolded and the man was ultimately shot and killed.

“The officer did not sustain any injuries,” police said.

Officials did not provide any details or the man’s identity, but said that he was wanted for a shooting in North Carolina.
