FORT LAUDERDALE, FL–
A Miami-Dade Police officer was arrested over the weekend after he discharged his weapon twice while he was allegedly under the influence.
The incident occurred outside of the officer’s Sunrise home Saturday night, following an argument with his wife.
Officials say Thomas De Jesus Cedre’s wife decided to leave the home with the couple’s two children because she felt uncomfortable with her husband loading and unloading a gun during the fight.
Once the wife started to drive away, De Jesus Cedre reportedly fired the gun twice.
Officers arrived at the home and found two semi-automatic pistols, a semi-automatic rifle, and a clear plastic bag with white powder.
The powder was later identified as cocaine.
It is unclear who called the cops, however, officials spoke with both the wife and the couple’s neighbors.
MDPD Director Alfredo Ramirez says he is aware of the situation:
“I am aware of the arrest of one of my officers by the Sunrise Police Department. The officer was immediately relieved of duty and this matter is currently under investigation. Our police officers are held to higher standards and are held accountable for their actions. Although I am truly disappointed to hear about the arrest, the Miami-Dade Police Department remains committed to our community and to maintaining transparency throughout this process.”
De Jesus Cedre is being held without bond at the Broward County Jail.
