HOLLYWOOD, FL–
Authorities briefly placed McArthur High School on lockdown after a prank swatting call.
Hollywood Police were called to the school on 6501 Hollywood Blvd just after 12:45 p.m. on Friday due to a false active shooter situation.
According to the report, they received a phone call about a gunman with body armor shooting at the school.
After placing the school on lockdown and searching all the rooms and buildings, officials determined the call was a prank.
Authorities say they believe the caller’s motive was to get the SWAT team to respond.
Swatting is a trend where a caller reports a fake active situation in an effort to get the SWAT team to respond to a specific location.
It is unclear if investigators know who made the call.
