Mass casualty event when vehicle runs through holiday parade

At least 40 innocent people enjoying a holiday parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin were injured and five fatalities reported after a driver blew past police and into the crowd on Sunday, as seen in graphic video of the event.

The mass casualty incident happened during an annual parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin shortly after 4:40 p.m. local time. Police say eleven adults and twelve children were transported to the hospital. There are several confirmed dead.

One witness reported that the driver ran over “several elderly women” while firing a weapon from his window.”

“Right in front of my family, this man drives through the parade hitting as many people as possible while shooting out the window,” a parade attendee tweeted.

“He ran over several elderly women who were dancing in the parade and many others please pray for everyone in Waukesha.”

Police say they have a person of interest and they have found the red SUV that was driven at a high rate of speed through the Christmas parade.

The police chief confirmed one of his officers fired three shots at the vehicle in an attempt to stop it. No citizens were injured when the officer discharged his weapon. The officer is a six year veteran of the Waukesha Police Department, according to the police chief. He also declared the scene safe and secure and there is no longer a danger to the public. He added a person of interest is in custody. The offending vehicle has also been located.
