Mass Casualty Event in Baltimore as Several Homes Explode

UPDATE: One person is dead following a gas explosion destroyed three homes in Baltimore. The deceased victim is identified as an adult woman. Two others are reportedly in serious condition. The initial report from a Baltimore fire union said at least five people were trapped including children. —————————————————————————————————————————————————– Baltimore fire fighters and paramedics are responding to a major explosion that destroyed at least four homes trapping multiple victims. Police say the scanner alerted them to a “mass casualty” event.

Local media are reporting several people, including children are trapped in the rubble and paramedics are communicating with at least one victim under the debris. There is a report of at least one death, but the total number of casualties has not been confirmed.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation. Officials from Baltimore Gas and Electric and the Baltimore office of emergency management are on scene and are calling it “a major incident.”
