The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for a man who reportedly threatened his mother with a knife before fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred near the 1400 block of Federal Highway in Jensen Beach on Thursday.
Authorities say they are searching for 39-year old Derek Justin Prevett who fled on foot and was seen in the woods not far from that location.
Due to their proximity to the area where the incident began, Felix Williams Elementary School and Jensen Beach High School have lockouts in place until further notice.
Officials however, are reporting that dismissal will take place at its scheduled time and that there is an increased police presence to ensure the process is smooth.
