The man accused of fatally shooting a dog inside a kennel at a Davie veterinary clinic has apologized to the dog’s owner and has offered to get him a new dog.
21-year-old Chayse Billie made the comments after being bonded out of jail on Wednesday night.
“I’m sorry, and I’ll get you a new dog if you want, but I’m pretty sure you don’t want to see me right now,” he said, on camera.
Billie was arrested after he was caught on camera breaking into the Aycock Veterinary Clinic and shooting a dog.
The incident occurred around 6:00 am on Friday.
Billie was said to have fired several rounds at the animal before walking off like nothing happened.
His hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. Prosecutors have spoken out saying his regret does not change what he did:
“While there may have been remorse after the fact, it did not stop him from shooting and killing this animal.”
The dog’s owner seemed to echo the same sentiment saying that he wants Billie to pay for what he did:
“Nothing is going to replace her. She [had] an impact in my life,” he said. “When I came back from my last deployment, I came kind of broken. She knew when I was down. She knew when I was depressed. She kind of forced me to pet her, and without me knowing, I would pet her, and then I’d be calm, I’d be OK.”
Billie faces a felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty.
